Welcome to the site of Nina Riano. I am so pleased to have you visit. Today I would like to tell you a little about my world. I have created a nice little bubble around myself for many years now. I have become very comfortable in my own little existence. My comfort zone has allowed me to build a very structured and sometimes boring routine for my life. (Of course, let me point out, there is nothing wrong with structure, but I don’t know many people who like boring.)
One of the reasons I have been so dutiful in creating this existence is partly because I am a mother, wife, and fur baby owner; a caregiver, if you will. The routine of a structured existence makes since. You other caregivers know what I’m talking about. Right?
Knowing what you need to do and being prepared for everything just makes life easier. Unfortunately, in that structured routine and giving care to others, I have become comfortable. I have allowed myself to draw boundaries between sustaining a well-organized life and actually living a fulfilled life.
Out of this comfortable existence, I have also allowed fear to be my north star. In the back of my mind I’ve thought about how others might react, how foolish I might look, how my family might suffer. So, I played it safe.
However, the last few years I have been working my way closer to the edge of my comfort zone and I have been saying yes to the fun that life has been offering and I have been saying no to things that I really don’t care to do.
And, guess what?
The world hasn’t cared one bit, nor has my family suffered.
The catalyst for this shift in thinking came in the form of a post on social media. If you want to know the whole story, you’ll have to come back later to get the details, but the comment that was made in that post prompted me to stop letting others dictate my life and my story. I stopped feeling like my comfort zone was protecting me from the world. I began feeling that I was only one degree away from wherever I wanted to be at any given point in my day or in my life.
The older I get the more I want to be free of the expectations of others, stop saying “Someday I’ll do that,” and start living life my way. There is so much out there in the world that is good and vibrant. I want to know about it and experience that happiness. I want to find clarity and balance while still taking care of my family.
I cannot discover that life from inside my comfort zone. Neither can you! If you are feeling the same as I have been then I’m glad the universe has brought us together.
